You may find that you need to use the Safe Passage Firewall. You may be doing P2P filesharing and wish to keep it a secret from anyone doing port scanning (the Safe Passage Firewall can respond so that it doesn't appear that you are running a firewall). Or, your personal firewall may interfere with Safe Passage and you may wish to potect yourself from worms or other port scanning villians.
In any case, Safe Passage comes equipped with an excellent firewall which blocks any ports you choose. If you wish to continue with DHCP or local filesharing you can open up individual ports.
To set up the Safe Passage firewall simply select Advanced-->Privacy Settings to find the following dialog:
