internet explorer is being successfully tunnelled for http, but i cannot send email through outlook? i have an ssh shell through cotse, but no socks.
what am i doing wrong?

Most likely, this is an authentication issue with your mail server. Many ISP's do not allow users to send email unless their IP address is within that ISP's network. If you're tunneling traffic through an outside SSH server, then it will appear that your trying to send email from there, not your ISP's network.
You have 2 options:
1) Add your mail server as an excluded target under the Advanced tab. This will allow your email traffic to be sent normally (not SSH encrypted)
2) Use a mail server that allows email to be sent from your SSH server. This may require you to use a different email address.
